Society’s printer gift for Hinckley Area Foodbank

Hinckley & Rugby Building Society has donated an office printer to help Hinckley Area Foodbank manage its vital work helping feed thousands of local people.

In 2018-2019 Hinckley Area Foodbank fed almost 6,000 people who collected three days’ nutritionally balanced food packs from its distribution points in Hinckley, Barwell, Earl Shilton and Burbage.

Referred to the Foodbank by more than 90 agencies, people who need its help face a variety of crises including low income, long term illness and redundancy. As well as food, the Foodbank gives support in accessing help from other organisations.

Carla Loughrey, Hinckley & Rugby’s assistant marketing and PR manager, said: “We were very pleased we could help the Foodbank by donating office equipment. What Hinckley Area Foodbank and its supporters and volunteers achieve each week is remarkable.”

Set up in 2012, Hinckley Area Foodbank works in partnership with eight local churches. More than a third of the food packs it gives out go to children aged under 16. Almost 50 tonnes of stock was donated by the local community in 2018-19.

Hinckley Area Foodbank project manager Julie Baker said:

“We rely totally on donations, either of food or money to run our eight distribution centres. The donation of a printer for our office is much appreciated. We were very grateful for all donations. It is an unfortunate fact that demand for the Foodbank in Hinckley is still increasing.”
