Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Summer lunch serves up a charity boost

More than 75 women turned-out for Business Women’s Link’s Summer Lunch – and served-up a fantastic £500-plus boost for charity!

Networkers caught-up with each other’s news, tucked into a tasty meal at The Petwood Hotel, in Woodhall Spa, and were entertained by lively speaker Carol Shakespeare-Eyley.

And they dug deep to support BWL’s traditionally popular raffle and a “heads and tails” session to raise almost £530 for the network’s chosen charity for the year, Lincolnshire YMCA.

In an inspirational and amusing speech speaker Carol Shakespeare-Eyley shared how she had ploughed her own career path, campaigning for the ordination of women, and rising through the educational ranks to become a headteacher and an Ofsted inspector – all whilst looking after her husband and raising two daughters – one of which is BWL’s events organiser Jessica Eyley!

Carol, who continues to be a Lay Reader within the Diocese of Worcester is also Chair of Governors to an Executive Head Teacher and Chair of Governors at Swannington Church of England and Viscount Beaumont’s Church of England Primary Schools.

She encouraged BWL members and their guests to believe in themselves and their abilities.

“You should not only fight for your dreams, but also support others in their dreams and pave the way for the next generation.  Their fight is also our fight,” said Carol.

In addition to the fabulous lunch and bumper raffle BWL members and their guests generously supported a special initiative being promoted by BWL Corporate Member Wright Vigar.

Associate Director Jo Richardson and former BWL Chair Jo Richardson had suggested that diners bring along unwanted toiletry gifts, samples and other personal care items for a “red box” scheme

The result was a table laden with products, and extra bags of personal essentials which will be given to Lincolnshire YMCA to help restore dignity back to the lives of those in need.

BWL Co-chair Alexandra Turner said:

“This has to have been one of our most successful BWL Summer Lunches to date.  More members and guests than ever attended, there was a lovely atmosphere and we’d like to thank everyone for their fantastic support for our raffle and the “red box” donations.”
