Nottingham trio BASKing in new venture

A Nottingham trio is basking in excitement after a successful launch of their new venture, BASK Menswear.

Entrepreneurs Tom Gribby, Nick Lempard and Simon Crowther have joined forces and collaborated after spotting a gap in the male underwear market. They believe that men’s underwear is usually only 2 of 3 things: affordable, stylish or comfortable. BASK aims to change that and deliver on all 3. The underwear designs are BASK’s modern take on classic cuts, supplying both boxers and briefs. A hit product has been the coral brief with contrasting black piping for a striking look.

The group of entrepreneurs wanted to create the ‘ultimate’ underwear and aimed to improve on every aspect of underwear which irritated them usually. BASK explain ‘we don’t like labels’ and hence the underwear is label free for comfort. Alongside this, a centralised logo on both the front and rear bands was used for a great finish. The trio are very conscious of their impact on the environment and made all packaging recyclable, along with one of their most used items – the mailing bag- completely biodegradable as it is made from potato starch instead of plastic!

The entrepreneurs are already successful business owners in their own rights. Tom  is the founder and Director of Northbridge Talent; a boutique agency with a proactive, committed and personal approach, providing a high calibre of adult and young actors for TV, film and Theatre work, including a lot of profile and celebrity clients.

Simon is an award-winning engineer and entrepreneur. In 2012 he founded Flood Protection Solutions Ltd, which has since grown into one of the UK’s leading flood defence companies. The company has grown year on year since 2012. Simon’s work in industry gained him a place on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

Nick is the owner of the Promotional Textiles Group which works with clients from conception through to delivery, to provide a full supply chain solution manufacturing clothing across a range of specialist factories. Nick is quick to spot latest trends and Promotional Textiles grew rapidly supplying Jute bags during the purge on plastic and transition towards sustainable bags for life. Nick’s packaging experience is invaluable at BASK, and between his experience and Simon’s environmental qualifications and passion, it resulted in all BASK packaging being either biodegradable or recyclable.

The entrepreneurs launched BASK Menswear on Saturday 6th July at London Pride and have been overwhelmed with both the number of sales and positive feedback. Nick explained ‘whilst we know our products are very comfortable and high quality, it has been fantastic to hear that from our customers. Our sustainable approach to packaging has been incredibly well received’.

BASK Menswear had 200 orders in their first week and have large expansion plans with swimwear and activewear arriving soon. So far sales have all been via their online shop baskmenswear.com, however they are keen to be stocked in stores worldwide.
