Homebuilder's donation helps support training course at Coventry Hospice

Donating £1,000 as part of its Community Fund scheme, Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands has helped to run a training course at Myton Hospice in Coventry for the benefit of four local hospices.

The donation to The Hospice Biographers will be put towards supporting patients and their families at multiple hospices, including Myton Hospice close to the homebuilder’s Deram Parke development.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme launched earlier this year and involves donating up to £1,000 a month to charities and organisations in the area.

CEO of The Hospice Biographers, Barbara Altounyan, founded the charity in 2017 with the objective of engaging with hospices to train volunteers to record the life stories of hospice patients for their own benefit and as a legacy to leave for their loved ones.

Supported by Ed Sheeran and David Suchet, the charity is totally reliant on the donations of companies and individuals.

Barbara said:

“We believe that everyone has a story and a life worth remembering. This wonderful donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes will help us bring comfort to the hospice patients in Coventry.

“The ‘life stories’ recorded by our local trained volunteers will also give families and friends the chance to hear their voices and their precious memories for generations to come.

“Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme is a brilliant locally focused initiative, which is essentially changing and improving people's lives - it is a great gift to the community and we are grateful to be a recipient of it.”

Whilst contributing towards the training course, the funds donated will also go towards two recorders, enabling families of terminally ill patients to hear the voice of their loved ones for years to come.

Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said:

“The Hospice Biographers have been able to support many patients and their families, so we’re thrilled to be able to contribute to their services and hard work.

“As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy. We want to lead the industry not just in the quality of the homes and developments we build, but also in our work with charities and good causes throughout the UK.”
