Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Yoga in return for legal advice – a unique venture between Derby County Community Trust and Smith Partnership

Lawyers will become more health-conscious while a charity’s workers will be briefed in wills and house sales in an innovative new tie-up.

Derby County Community Trust’s collaboration with city law firm, Smith Partnership, is aimed at improving the welfare of the staff of both organisations.

Initially, the Trust will provide in-house yoga and relaxation as well as mental health first aid training for Smith Partnership staff.

In return, Smith Partnership lawyers will give the Trust’s team an introduction to wills, conveyancing, mortgage applications and pensions.

Will Turner, Derby County Community Trust Business Development Manager, said:

“Smith Partnership has always been a great supporter of Derby County Football Club, so we are thrilled, as the club’s charitable arm, that they should want to engage with us.

“They care passionately for their staff and are keen to provide support for their physical and mental health.

“We are licensed deliverers of courses for both youth and adult mental health first aid. We are also experts in physical health, so we are starting in that arena with yoga sessions.

“In return, our staff, who are predominantly quite young, will receive legal advice workshops surrounding key life milestones from mortgage applications to pensions.

"The growing need for a focus on mental and physical health on the workplace is evident nationwide so it’s great to see Smith Partnership paving the way and highlighting its importance in Derby.”

“We are striving for more link-ups with businesses so we can improve lives through physical activity and education so look forward to more link-ups of this type.”

Claire Twells, Smith Partnership’s Business Development Partner, said:

"We are committed to helping to develop the local community and our staff. Together we are sure we will build a great and long-lasting partnership which benefits us all.

“We are delighted to be working closely with Derby County Community Trust because it seamlessly completes the circle between the football club, ourselves and the Trust."
